A beautiful hotel, right next to one of Shanghai's biggest shopping malls within walking distance. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful. I don't speak Chinese and this is my first trip to China yet the staff helped me out so my trip would go smoothly without any hiccups. The rooms are well-kept and clean with an amazing view over the city. I will definitely come back and recommend it to any friends who plan to visit Shanghai. The restaurant and bar areas are exceptional with everything one can ask for.
The decor was unique, very vibrant and fresh. There were great spaces for sitting down to chill, or work or network . Although the hotel was busy it didn't seem like it and I enjoyed the ambience. The room was nicely set up, it was not large but very functional. The smart tv and ipad in the room allowed streaming but i did not have the time or opportunity to try it out. Wifi was easy to connect to and signal was strong. The basic amenities were offered in the room. Only thing missing was coffee and tea making setup but the lobby and lounge provided a better setup for that. Staff were friendly and professional, when they made a mistake they tried to rectify it. The ability to pay a small fee to check in early was very useful. My flight arrived early and i was able to check in 6 hours earlier than normal. Breakfast was a small spread with basic necessities. Western and Asian items were offered, nice coffee and fresh yogurt and pastries, congee, eggs and so on. Overall I would certainly come back or consider another Citizen M hotel elsewhere. Only one setback was the location being in a relatively new complex was a bit challenging for drivers to find. Also access to mall next door was complicated however one of the staff walked with me to show the way. Then it was fine as the mall is also connected to the metro line 10.
The concept that got lost in translation The place is really hard to find. Its is hidden on a shopping mall car park. Its missold as a convenient location for Honqiao railway station but its not the case. Its around 12 minute walk to the metro station and then you have to change trains as theres not direct ones to the station. The journey will take you around 40 minutes. Its better to be on a nicer area like Shanghai library or even more central on the line 10 and your journey to the station will be as long. The rooms are very tiny, Which im happy if I’m located on a compacted pretty European capital but not here. The bed and cleaning are good. The designer furniture and deco are attractive but very formulated and overdone. Theres a nice Bar/ lounge area. Expect to pay London prices for a drink and the food is completely unacceptable to any standards. I couldn’t eat the chicken with mash potato. Even the waiter recognised that the food is bad arguing that they don’t have a proper kitchen. DO NOT ORDER FOOD HERE. I had been to CitizenM on other locations and I was really happy when I heard there’s one in Shanghai where I travel often with work. Unfortunately I’m very dissapointed this time. Im still at the hotel for 8 more nights. If there are any managers looking a this message please contact me. Im happy to leave if I get a refund. Nicolas
Special thanks to the front desk staff Jessie for her kindness and great service. I am a frequent patron of the hotel and she always makes my trip great. Thanks to Jessie!
